Young 88s are out racing every week doing double the number of events of NZ's next nearest one design fleet!

In Auckland, during the summer, RNZYS, BBYC and RYC midweek twilight racing with courses in the inner harbour and weekend winter racing.

There are also active fleets racing on Sydney, Tauranga, Wellington, and Lyttleton harbours. Members also participate in a variety of other events run by various clubs, as indicated in the Calendar.

The Association also organises events itself in Auckland and in other centres.

The keystone event for the Young 88 class - "The Nats" is professionally run by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron & decides who is the master of the Young 88's - Fully crewed racing held over 2 days, fiercely raced on Windward leeward courses.
 
Who can master the Y88 shorthanded? - Comprising of single handed, 2 handed and 3 handed events - the 1-2-3 series is the ultimate test of body and stamina!
 
 
With 30-60 mile courses, 2 crew and 3 races spaced approximately one month apart, SSANZ has come up with a successful formula that just gets better every year. Click here for more info

If there is one race that you do this year, make it the PIC Insurance Brokers Coastal Classic. This challenging coastal race is one of the biggest of its type in the world, and it's long marked the opening of the summer sailing season for many hundreds of Kiwi boaties. Click here for more info

 

The ultimate owner driver competition - no calling in the rockstar helmsman here - each boat must be driven by an owner - ensuring very tight racing and a fantastic party atmosphere back at the host club Bucklands Beach Yacht Club. 

 

This is the biggest regatta of its kind in New Zealand, and one of the Southern Hemisphere’s premier yachting events. The 88 division has a well earned reputation for sailing and partying hard. Click here for more info

 
With fleet sizes growing in Wellington and Christchurch the fleets combine to create the South Island champs - normally held in February / March this event moves around to support multiple clubs.
