Update 27/01 Training Brief Link Here

Update 26/01: Spoke to RO Celia Carson and RNZYS Sailing Director Laurie Jury last night.

Laury has offered to come out and provide coaching input on water and help with online "Zoom" video debrief next week (timing TBC).

Right now we have 5 boats which apparently is perfect but we can cope with a few more. Just let me know.

Forecast is 10-20 from SW and sunny :)

Turn on channel VHF 17 as soon as you get onto your boat. There will be a quick briefing before (most likely on 17) and input/updates during practice from Laurie and Celia.

Same plan:

  • First start at 1800 then as many start-beat-run-round-stop, start-beat-run-round-stop cycles as we can.
  • Start sequence and flags with be standard 5mins and
  • Legs approx 0.3-0.4 mile
  • This is not a contact sport! :)

Don't worry if still in cruise mode eg War Machine will not be emptied!

If you're coming it would be great if you can RSVP to this invite and log into the 88 web site and register via this link https://www.young88.org.nz/events/128253/

Cheers

Mike

This is an opportunity to fill the gap left by the cancelled Bay Week and Covid Regatta with some pre regatta season training.

Who?

Any Young 88, measured or not. Rally the troops, remove the rust and get in a few pre-season practice laps without the pressure of points. A great way to set the crew up for the Sprints, Nationals, women's series and any other racing.

What?

The team at RNZYS are going to set up a short windward leeward track and we will run as many start - beat - run - round - stop, start - beat - run - round - stop cycles as we can before it gets dark.  VHF channel 17 will be the station to monitor for instructions.

We have got the film crew sorted to capture the good the bad and the ugly for use at a Zoom debrief at a later date.

Hopefully we will have a "coach" for guidance on the water and a "dockside debrief" on H pier by the mast crane after

Where?

Usual Sprint race track just outside Westhaven

When?

From 1800hrs to end of twilight

Thursday January 27th

How Much?

The session will be free but we are asking for  koha/donation to Coastguard. More instructions to follow
