All Young 88's interested in racing in the beautiful Bay of Islands

What

This is the biggest regatta of its kind in New Zealand, and one of the Southern Hemisphere’s premier yachting events. The 88 division has a well earned reputation for sailing and partying hard. Click here for more info

The Sailor Moon boys want to inject a little bit of social and fun into it so we have put our hands up to help organise 2020 Bay Week. We’ll have our 88 division but we’ll put a twist on it.

The following is an outline of what we are thinking. Have a read and please share with your mates and crew. Feel free to give us feedback, ideas, comment or WHY.

Feeder race or cruise. Something like Auckland - a stop or 2 on the way - raft up or dinner at Tutukaka - then onto BOI.

Home away from home dedicated Young 88 pier at opua marina or the ferry marina. Party central.

Y88 division to have at least 1 day of special races potentially on Tuesday the day before  the regatta starts. Possibly teams racing, special event race, helm change leg change, extra points race, crew boat change race…. All TBA at the moment but the idea is to inject some fun. Again, thoughts/ideas welcome.

Race in cruising trim. Lots of us use our boats for cruising and many will be in cruising trim. Logistically difficult to change to boat to race mode (other than sails) so boats can leave on an agreed amount of cruise gear .. squabs, crockery, cutlery, rum, beer

Island Party - As we are in cruising trim we could stay in the Bay overnight and have big raft up. Looking into getting a support boat sorted so friends/family can join us.

The bloody good fellas at TR Group are putting on a big truck to help out with logistics. It’ll take up all the race sails and can safely store the cruising sails for the duration of the regatta.

Return cruise — Rally to Kawau, Party at KIYC Sunday Night and then join the  Anniversary Day Kawau to Auckland Race 

Anyways, hopefully it’s enough to give you some idea of what we’re thinking. 

IMPORTANT
What we need is a show of hands. Definite - Maybe - No way -  Let us know ASAP or latest by END OF SEPTEMBER.  Team Sailor moon has to book the marina.

Additional Information

 TR Group specialise in Truck and Trailer rental and leases have offered the assocation a large truck to transport race sails to/from the regatta for those boats who want to cruising the Bay of Islands, as well being a storage truck for crusing and delivery gear during racing. 

We are looking for a driver with a 'Class 2' licence to drive the truck up to Opua on January 20th/21st and return on the 25th. If you are able to assist please contact Jacko or Michael below.
