Hi all,

I hope Santa delivered on that new 3Di Genoa and you have had, or are still having a great break. It has been another amazing summer for cruising. Fingers crossed the blue skies and fair winds continue for the action packed 88 race programs at both ends of the country.

The only changes to the plan so far has been the cancellation of the "Covid Cup" replacement for the cancelled "Bay Week". Toes crossed that the bug stays under control and the Plan A, stays Plan A.

The Young 88 turned 40 in December and remains in good health. The success of a one design fleet is driven by the numbers and fun at class events. It has been great to see boats changing hands and new owners keen to get out there, learn and participate. More boats and crews = more fun = more boats and crews.

The class events are outlined below and we will also be sending out Calendar Evites to make it easy to add to your devices and forward to crew. A plea from the class and club volunteers to RSVP to invites and enter sooner rather than later to save us stress about numbers and time chasing them.

North Sails Young 88 Sprint Series

• This is all about sharpening the skills and the crew with the help of the coaches from Norths

• Full on w/l racing inside and outside depending on weather
• Works crews vs weekend warriors with everyone having someone to race
• This is all about the One Design win on line but we will run h’caps like usual
• Weight rule as previous, declared 616kg, no limit on numbers

Y88s @ City of Sails Auckland Regatta

• This entire event is also different in 2022 becoming the “PHRF Nationals”
• Not to be outdone we decided to flip the script and make an “Y88HRF event”
• We should be able to use the ever awesome “RaceTrack” as the source of the handicaps
• This gives any 88 a chance to get out there and beat their number and win
• Line prizes will also be awarded but secondary to handicap results
