All done and dusted with crews heading for a prize giving at BBYC at 1700. A great days racing three up with kites doing five windward leewards. Congratulations to Jacko and Naullsy for their first on line in the three handed champs, second was Greg Wilshire on Vagabond and third the Haslip blokes on Babe. First on corrected time Leigh Miller on Voodoo....

Clean Sweep for Cris Brodie in the Mount Gay Rum Young 88 Single Handed Regatta

Last Sunday morning saw an early completion or deferral of Mother’s Day duties as the competitors and volunteers made their way out to Northern Leading light for the three harbour races in the Young 88 single handed regatta. Cris Brodie sailing the borrowed Vagabond gave everyone a lesson with a clean sweep of bullets, Jon Henderson on the borrowed Dilemma was second on line and first on corrected time and Craig Haslip sailing his own (and bro Gavin’s) boat Babe was third.....

Last weekend’s Harken Young 88 Nationals followed hot on the heels of the Southern Champs held in Lyttleton a week prior. Both events featured a quality fleet of fifteen boats, challenging conditions, world class talent, and as much fun off the water as on.

America's Cup Sailors Back For Northern and Southern Young 88 Regattas

The Young 88 fleet continues to strengthen its position as a great racing and cruising option for all ages, stages and regions of the country.  The North Sails Southern Champs are on this weekend April 10-11 and are  followed a week later by The Harken Young 88 National Champs.  Both events are expected to attract fleets upwards of fifteen boats.

Zane Gifford Wins Postponed 2020 Harken Young 88 Nationals

After a high-pressure decision to postpone the Nationals on the cusp of the COVID-19 pandemic back in March, the event was successfully completed last weekend by a competitive fleet of sixteen boats racing in ideal conditions... Take that Covid!

The association led the organisation of an on water parade of his designs and we were invited to speak at his memorial service; more info below.

2020 Coastal Classic - Young 88 On Board Reporter Stories

A challenging and almost unheard of light airs event.  Four 88’s were entered this year with Driving Force in the cruising division and Babe, Slipstream and War Machine duking it out on the way to prizegiving. Good fun and perfect windless weather but disappointing to have to withdraw 10 miles short of Brett so we could make it to the party on time!

2020 Harken Young 88 Nationals and North Sails Owners Championships preview

The 2020 Harken Young 88 National Championships incorporating the North Sails Owners Championships are less than 4 weeks away. Back in March when the nationals were orginally scheduled, who would have throught, New Zealand would have been through a lock down, social distancing would have become a norm and visitors into New Zealand would have to quarantine for 2-weeks in a hotel!

Matt Steven Sailing Undercover Wins Young 88 Two Handed Champs on Countback

Last Sunday saw the running of the second stage of the aptly named and “covinnovative” Mount Gay Rum 1-2-3 Series. Two handed, windward leewards with no extras was the order of the day. Twelve competitive 88’s and a bunch of hardy Pied Pipers assembled in the vicinity of Auckland Harbour’s Northern Leading Light to do battle in ten to 20 knot Southwesters over five intense and closely fought races.

New “Top Gun” Wins 2020 Young 88 Single Handed Champs

Brad Marsh reports in after his successful inaugural outing on his new boat Dangerzone Sunday May 24th was the Bruce Elliott Memorial Single Handed Champs and the first event of the BBYC run 1,2,3 series for the Young 88 class. We purchased Dangerzone from Wellington with the intention of bringing it back to the Auckland fleet to enjoy the benefits of the class and the wide and varied racing it offers.
