2019 Members Forum Follow Up

A Class Members Forum was held at RNZYS Tues Sept 10th. We heard from Dr Hamish Ross about the America's Cup Deed of Gift and some of the more interesting shenanigans of the past. The association then tabled the event plan for the 19/20 season with proposed changes for discussion and feedback and presented a few of the more exciting initiatives including measurement focus, and projects "Upcycle" and "Olympus" ........

2019 SSANZ Two Handed Triple Series - Final Debrief

2019 SSANZ two handed triple series is in the bag with the weather providing a real test of men, women and machines. The first race was relatively light, race two was blowing dogs off chains and the last race was only moderate. Saturday’s  race was won by James Corbett on Flash Gordon after son Harry gave dad an early Father's Day present executing a very Flash windward drop at Rocky Bay mark in 20 knots plus well shy of a dead run. Big lad that Harry!

SSANZ Lewmar Two Handed Series Race 1 Debrief

A great day on the water for the opening round of the SSANZ Lewmar two handed triple series. A very light start and then a building southerly saw a reach run reach down to Tiri then a fetch across to the Noises and a beat with many (too many) tacks to stay out of the tide on the way home!

Sail the SSANZ Lewmar Triple Series 2019 from home!

Sailonline is delighted to be returning to Auckland, on New Zealand’s North Island. Feeling like a home-from-home, the waters of the Hauraki Gulf have, over the years, become more familiar to our virtual racers than our own home waters around the globe! For the eighth year in succession, Sailonline is looking forward to racing as the virtual partner of the Short-handed Sailing Association of New Zealand for the SSANZ Lewmar Triple Series 2019.

Craig Edward's Flying Machine living up to its name to win the 2019 Young 88 South Island Champs

The final day of racing in the Bayleys South Island Young 88 South Island Champs saw an epic tussle between Craig Edwards’ team on Flying Machine and defending Champion Harry Thurston on One Way.  Sailing in ideal conditions on Akaroa Harbour on Saturday there was an anxious wait on a calm Sunday morning before the sea breeze filled in and racing got underway.

RPAYC Young 88 Open Championship

Another great regatta at RPAYC this weekend, and thanks to all owners and crews who attended to make it such an enjoyable event.  Overall winner Steve Ellis, sailing “Agent 88”, received the Gunga Din Sword, presented by RPAYC Vice Commodore Ron Palmer.

Mount Gay Rum Young 88 1-2-3 Series

Race 1 and 2 of the Mount Gay Rum Young 88 1-2-3 series took place in beautiful weather. Congratulations to Mark Bond on Slipstream for the double bullet today - very well sailed.

SSANZ Race 2 - Legless reporting

So no Ice on the marina this year for the SSANZ race two 2016 on Legless. The weather scenarios were analysed to the enth degree and with the un-stable low pressure system in question likely to track right over the course on the day, there was a good chance only the last few hours of the race would be ski-mask endurance rather than competitive sailing.

Bruce Elliott Memorial Single Handed Champs

A brilliant Westerly breeze and clear sky greeted the BBYC Race committee as they setup early Sunday morning for the 2016 iteration of the Mount Gay Rum Young 88 Single Handed Championships – with 11 boats racing for the honours of the Bruce Elliott Memorial Trophy – and the bragging rights that come with it.

ANZAC 250 – Heartlight’s Story

We left Thursday evening in a very light NorEaster that built to 10-12knots as we tacked through the Motuihe Channel. Plenty of bigger boats still around which was encouraging though a long night ahead as we as we headed out to Channel Island in a short chop and about 15 knots. Hoping we’d have a lay through to Cuvier Island went out the window with an Easterly shift through the Colville Channel and an incoming tide but rewarded with a fantastic morning.
